Atlantic Beach is the most northern of the Jacksonville Beaches. When the majority of communities in Duval County consolidated with Jacksonville, Florida in 1968, Atlantic Beach, along with Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, and Baldwin remained quasi-independent.
Located on a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway, Atlantic Beach is part of Florida's First Coast and Jacksonville Beaches. In addition to the beach Atlantic Beach has sixty-five acres dedicated to parks, including the Dutton Island Preserve on the intercoastal waterway.

Police are currently hunting thieves who stole an oven from a popular Irish pub in Atlantic Beach, FL while the establishment was closed for Thanksgiving.

Atlantic Beach gets closer to banning 'self-serve' tobacco
The commission voted unanimously in support of the measure that would end displays of tobacco in the front areas of stores or in machines at bars. The measure is based on ordinances in other Florida municipalities that seek to end sales of tobacco products to minors. The state's legal age to purchase tobacco is 18.
